|About Me and My Studio|
Susan is an active voice teacher, performer, and director/producer. She serves as Chair of the Voice Department at Indian Hill Music School in Littleton, MA, and as Music Director for the United Parish of Upton. She also teaches privately in the Mendon/Upton area, as well as in Harvard, MA. Her professional affiliations include the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), and the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA). Ms. Bonito enjoys teaching many styles of music with an emphasis on healthy technique, interpretation/dramatic sincerity, and musicality. She is adept at identifying and solving vocal issues, and helping students achieve their musical goals. Her teaching style empowers students by helping them understand how their instruments works, and by expanding their ability to work through multiple learning modalities, such as cognitive, visual, aural, emotional and kinesthetic modes. She employs strategies from well-researched vocal pedagogies and from her own teaching experience of over 30 years.
Her professional credits include multiple solo appearances with the San Francisco Symphony, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, Music from Bear Valley, Assabet Valley Mastersingers, Claflin Hill Symphony, and The Orchestra of Indian Hill, to name a few. She has been honored to share the stage with world-class conductors and musicians such as Robert Shaw, Steve Reich, Edo de Waart, Herbert Blomstedt, Neeme Järvi, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Dave Brubeck. Recording and film score collaborations include two Grammy-winning recordings with the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus, and the film soundtrack for Godfather, Part III with Carmine Copola conducting.
|Styles:||Classical, Opera, Musical Theater, Pop, Jazz, and Folk.|
|Studio:||Current students range in age from 10 to 60+ and include beginners, intermediate and advanced students as well as emerging professional singers, and professional choral directors. I teach through Indian Hill Music School, and my private studios in Mendon, Upton and Harvard MA. I am trained in Somatic Voicework, Estill Voice Training System, and Bel Canto and draw from all of these, depending on the goals and interests of the student. My students have participated in NATS-Boston competitions, District, All-State and All-Eastern Honor Choirs as well as Community and Regional Theaters. A number of students have gone on to study Music, Voice or Theater at Conservatories and Universities around the country, including Boston Conservatory, Ithaca College, New York University, Montclair State University and Oberlin Conservatory.|
|Why Somatic Voicework™?|
|I especially like the student-centered approach of Somatic Voicework where the teacher assesses the learning modality of the student by observation and inquiry and uses that modality as a bridge to expand the student's awareness and skill.|
