Bidi was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. Her father was a busy pediatric neurologist who stayed active as a jazz musician and band leader. She listened day and night to Laura Nyro, Barbra Streisand, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Buffy St Marie. Throughout high school and in college she performed as a folk singer in coffeehouses and at festivals. Through happenstance she discovered modern dance which decidedly influenced her trajectory.
Bound to an existence largely revolving around musical expression, Bidi trained as a modern dancer while living in New York City. This required a deep dive into music, rhythm, and movement. Her dream to become a member of the Nancy Meehan Dance Company was realized. She fulfilled her Master’s Degree in Dance Education from NYU.
Upon moving to rural Vermont, she became a yoga teacher, integrating Sanskrit chanting into her classes. She always identified the chants as key to the mastery of breath, as well as a great strengthener for present listening.
Yoga led her to India, where she developed Homagerie, an artisan-based business. Again through happenstance, Bidi circled back to her jazz roots, which ultimately led to the recent release of debut album Beautiful Souvenirs.
Since 1998 she's served as the "chazaneet shacharit" for the High Holidays.
She is currently certified to teach voice, having completed Levels I and II of Somatic Voicework~the Lovetri Method. Bidi has successfully begun teaching virtually to enthusiastic students from around the US.
She thanks all jazz luminaries who cast their light, including Jay Clayton, Meredith Monk, Tom Bogdan, Theo Bleckmann, Laurie Antonioli, Jamie Leonhart, Sheila Jordan, Kate McGarry, Rhiannon, Dominique Eade, Jocelyn Medina, Brenda Earle Stokes, Fay Victor and Peter Eldridge.
