Soprano Joy Rotz is currently in her fifth year at Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston, GA, serving as Adjunct Professor of Music. She has also taught at Shorter College and Gordon College. In addition to her collegiate work, she teaches a number of incredibly talented middle and high schoolers at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, GA. Joy holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Alabama, where she studied with Dr. Jennifer Cowgill. In 2005, she graduated summa cum laude from Shorter College with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. While there, she studied with Dr. John Thomasson and Miss Phoebe Pomeroy. Her time at Shorter also awarded her the opportunity to tour the cathedrals of England with the Shorter Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Martha Shaw. Her operatic credits include Alida in Robert Ward's Roman Fever, Pagagena in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème, Sister Constance in Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites, Dorabella in the Opera Ala Breve production of scenes from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Amy in Tryst and Thereafter, an opera by Dr. Linda Lister of Shorter College.In addition to her classical training, Joy is fully certified in Somatic Voicework (TM) The LoVetri Method, which includes the teaching of musical theatre, jazz, and other contemporary commercial music genres. She is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing as well as the music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda and the music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon. She resides in western Atlanta with her husband, Stephen, and three-year-old son, Ethan.
