A physical copy of the Level I Somatic Voicework™ course book will be automatically added to your registration at $25.00. The course book is required for all new participants and those who have a previous version of the book (printed prior to 2018).

Vocal Function As The Answer To Vocal Expression and Excellence

Week I: Functional Training & Vocal Freedom
An exploration of the elements and foundation of functional training in establishing freedom and ease in singing any style. The session will begin with a traditional academic-style lecture, Jeanie LoVetri will then work with 2 singers in exploring elements of functional training using the principles of Somatic Voicework™. 
Week II: Mix Matters
An exploration of the elusive mix! What is it? Why does it matter? How do you cultivate it in your students and yourself? The session will begin with a traditional academic-style lecture, Jeanie LoVetri will then work with 2 singers in developing a mixier sound to address the technical and stylistic demands of their repertoire.  
Week III: Addressing Constriction
This session will begin with a traditional academic-style lecture exploring some of the central elements of constriction in the singing voice, this will be followed by a holistic approach to addressing constriction in singers. Jeanie LoVetri will then work with 2 singers dealing with severe constriction. 
Week IV: Olympic Singing, Olympic Artistry
What does it take to train Olympic singers and artists? How do you apply the principles of functional training when working with professional singers? The session will begin with a traditional academic-style lecture, followed by Jeanie LoVetri working with 2 professional artists in contrasting styles. 
Dates: Mondays in October; October 4, 11, 18, 25, 2021
Time: 6:00-8:00 PM EDT
Cost: $200 USD for those new to Somatic Voicework™ ($50 COVID-19 discount already applied); $150 USD for those who have completed at least Level I of their Somatic Voicework™ training (additional $50 COVID-19 discount already applied).
For those who cannot complete the webinar series in real time, all participants will have access to the video archive for 12 months from the final day of the course.

Somatic Voicework™ is a body-based method of vocal pedagogy that incorporates physical awareness, aural acuity, kinesthetic development and vocal freedom. It is supported by voice science, vocal hygiene and medical information. It promotes technical security, stylistic accuracy and personal satisfaction. It honors the wholeness of healthy vocal use and the individuality of every vocal artist. It was developed to address contemporary commercial music but encompasses all styles. Past participants have come from all vocal disciplines and nearly every state as well as 13 foreign countries. Participants have remarked that the work is different, new, unique, powerful, honest and open-hearted.

The three-tiered course of LoVetri’s method, Somatic Voicework™, is comprehensive but accessible to everyone from singers not yet teaching to those with decades of experience. Vocal function is clearly explained, and the exercises presented are designed to empower teachers to create solutions for a wide variety of pedagogical needs. Since 21st-century music continues to diversify, the need to understand vocal function, vocal health and voice science has never been greater, and new tools are needed to supplement those that were used for the past two hundred years. These tools are found in Somatic Voicework™. There is no special jargon, nothing to prepare, and it avoids any direct manipulation of the structures in the throat. It has the honor of having had 12 nationally recognized laryngologists as lecturers and four highly acknowledged speech language pathologists as faculty over the past decade. The training days are filled with information, demonstration and application balanced with camaraderie, networking and social interaction among participants at all levels.

Meet the 2021 LoVetri Institute for Somatic Voicework™ Faculty

Jeannette LoVetri, Founder

Jeannette LoVetri is founder and director of The Voice Workshop™, creator of Somatic Voicework™ and creator of the original course for Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy, which for 13 years garnered over 1200 participants from all over the USA and 12 foreign countries.The work is unique, practical and based on voice science, vocal health and vocal function. It has received rave reviews from vocal experts in every discipline and has had a significant influence on vocal pedagogy worldwide.

 

 

Betsy Fiedler, Senior Faculty, Leominster, MA

Elizabeth “Betsy” Fiedler teaches music in her own private studio, and is the Director of Music at Holy Family of Nazareth Church. In addition, she is an adjunct faculty member at Mount Wachusett Community College, the Vocal Performing Arts Instructor for the Arts Magnet at Burncoat High School, and is a soloist at local churches, colleges, and with the Greater Gardner Community Choir. Betsy enjoys performing on the stage at Theatre at the Mount and Greater Worcester Opera Company, and sings at local nursing homes. She has recorded 3 CDs of contemporary Christian Music. Her enthusiasm for music spills over into her teaching style and is evident in her performances. She has interest in many types of music from classical and sacred, to music theatre and jazz. Her love of learning has compelled her to seek out additional professional development and course work with the motivation of becoming the best teacher and singer possible. She holds a BS and MM in Music Education, and has completed coursework in Vocal Pedagogy. Betsy is certified in Levels I, II, III of Somatic Voicework ™ the LoVetri Method, and is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, National Pastoral Musicians, and National Association for Music Education. http://betsyfiedler.com

 

Michelle Rosen, Senior Faculty, New York, NY

Michelle Rosen teaches musical theatre majors at Tisch School of Drama, New York University and is in demand as a private teacher in her Brooklyn, N.Y. She was assistant professor at Westminster College of the Arts for eight years and was the senior voice teacher at the Grammy-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus for fifteen years, studio. Michelle holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from NYU and received the Distinguished Voice Professional certificate from the New York Singing Teachers’ Association. Certified in Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method since 2005, she joined the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute faculty in 2012. Michelle has enjoyed a performing career in musical theatre and opera and has sung folk music and with a rock band. Professional credits include various settings of “The Phantom of the Opera,” most notably playing Christine in the Lloyd Webber Phantom in Germany. Other credits include Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, Rosabella in The Most Happy Fella, Carrie in Carousel, Jeanie in The Stephen Foster Story, as well as leading roles in such operas as The Medium and Dialogues of the Carmelites. She has appeared in Europe, in New York venues, in regional theatres

 

 

Amanda Chmela, Faculty, Long Island, NY

Amanda Chmela received her BFA in Musical Theatre from SUNY Fredonia and her MM in Opera Performance from Binghamton University.  She is a member of NATS, NYSTA, NAfME, The Voice Foundation, and is Certified in Somatic Voicework™, The LoVetri Method.  Ms. Chmela is on the voice faculty at LIU C.W. Post within their Fine and Performing Arts Department and served on voice faculty at Rider University from 2014-2018.  She also maintains a private voice studio on Long Island where she specializes in teaching Contemporary Commercial Music with a strong focus on musical theatre and pop/rock styles.

Ms. Chmela has participated in the Westchester Summer Vocal Institute and is an alumnus of Tri-Cities Opera’s Resident Artist Training Program.  She has been the female vocalist for the Savoy Swing Band since August of 2013. Performance highlights include Lucille in Parade, Anne in A Little Night Music, Nancy in Oliver, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Josephine in H.M.S Pinafore, Beth in Little Women, Hodel/Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof, Alice in Addam’s Family, Mrs. Cratchit in A Christmas Carol, Despina in CosÌ fan tutte, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Laetitia & Ms. Pinkerton in The Old Maid and the Thief, Fire Cover/Chorus in L’enfant et les sortilege, and Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea.

Announcing Teacher Training Day and Teacher Support Group Workshops on May 23rd

The Teacher Training Day Workshop is from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Teacher Support Group Workshop is from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. Both are on Sunday, May 23rd. There is a 15 minute break midway in each and a 30 minute break between the two. You can do one or both. The cost for one is $85 and for both is $150. The Teacher Training Day is for graduates of at least Level I. Teachers work with each other in pairs. Anyone is allowed to watch and not teach or not sing or only sing. During the Teacher Support Group Workshop Jeanie works with the students of three teachers to provide “guided advice” to proceed in their lessons. We typically take the students of the first three people who ask, but we go with new people whenever possible. If payment is made and participation must be cancelled there will be a 75% refund up to 48 hours, after that 50% refund, cancellation on the day, no refund.  The workshops are limited to 20 participants, so register early.

Announcing brand new webinar series, Jeanie’s Hot Topics!

We are  excited to offer a brand new webinar series, Jeanie’s Hot Topics! The topics being explored are: The Many Ways To Belt; Mix What? The Science and Application of Mix; Styles Explored: Stylistic Accuracy in Contemporary Commercial Music; Working with Vocal Pathology. This webinar series will run the first four Mondays in May.
As always, these online courses are open to people who are new to Somatic Voicework™ and to those who have already completed their training (alumni of any level receive an alumni discount). In addition, the course is currently being discounted an additional $50 USD for everyone due to COVID-19. If you are not able to complete the course in real-time, you can sign up for the course and complete the course at your own leisure; you’ll have 12 months to complete the course and review the materials at your own leisure.

Announcing April’s Teacher Training & Support Group Day

Back by popular demand, the Teacher Training Day and Teacher Support Group will gather next on Sunday, April 18th. These sessions are for graduates of at least Level I of Somatic Voicework ™ and will be presented online through Zoom; registration is limited to 20 participants.
During The Teacher Training Day teachers work with supervision from Jeanie, in partnership with other teachers in front of the group. The Teacher Training Day will take place from 1:00 to 4:00 pm EST (NY Time) with a short break of 15 minutes in the middle. The Teacher Support Group allows Jeanie to teach one or two students of participating teachers in front of the group, giving the teachers guidance and advice towards further study. The Teacher Support Group will be from 4:30 to 7:30 pm and also has a short break approximately in the middle. It is possible to take one or both workshops.

Students chosen to sing will be on a “first-come, first served” basis, so if you want to have a student sing for Jeanie, don’t delay your registration. Please use your real name if it is not the same as your email ID. They should prepare a short song (about 90 seconds long) by memory, with accompaniment recorded ahead of time on another device, or be prepared to sing a capella. Students chosen must be at least 12 years old and must have been studying regularly with the teacher for a minimum of 6 months. The students may attend the session in which they sing for free.
The fee for either workshop individually is $85.00 and for both is US$150.00. The session will be video-taped and available for viewing within 2 days for up to one year. For more details or to register, click here!.

Announcing Special March Webinar Series: “Speaking and Singing for Music Theater”, March 22 and March 29

Jeanie will moderate a panel discussion on this topic with four dynamic expert guests over the two Mondays. On March 22, Joan Melton, PhD, and David Sabella will answer questions about this topic. Each has decades of experience in music theater as trainers and performers and will also be available to answer questions from participants at the end. On March 29, the webinar guests will be Jennifer Spencer and Melanie Vaughn, addressing the same topic. Jennifer is an actor, playwright, and educator and Melanie is a seasoned Broadway performer and on faculty at the New School for Broadway at NYU Tisch. These sessions are going to be dynamic, informative and a lot of fun. This two week webinar series is $100 for people who have yet to do your Somatic Voicework™ training, and $75 for people who have completed at least Level I of their Somatic Voicework™ Training.

What Can You Do With A Song? An examination of what makes any song personal and compelling. There will be techniques and approaches that allow the vocalist to “dig deep” into many different ingredients.

One Song Several Ways Can you take one song and turn it around, transforming it with a few basic ingredients? Of course!

Examining Song Compositions Why are some songs hard to sing? What makes others easy? When you understand how to determine that, it will allow you to avoid songs that are inherently problematic or make positive use of that kind of challenge.

Two Contrasting Songs In auditions for music theater this is often the request. How do you choose and what makes the best comparison? Would there be another reason, outside of music theater, to make use of contrasting songs? You know there is.

This series will continue special session. What is “Good” Singing? Somatic Voicework™ is a pedagogy developed to embrace all styles of music universally. All styles are seen as being equally valid and of having integrity in their own criteria. That being the case, what makes “good” singing when there are so many variables involved? Is there some objective evaluation that would cover any and all singers and styles? Good is relative — except when it’s not!
